Free Training: Making a Mindfulness Practice Stick

By: Lisa Brookes Kift, MFT

I’ve been practicing mindfulness meditation off and on for over five years.  The operative words here are “off and on.”  Though I do generally live my life with far more attention and attunement to the present moment than ever because of my awakening to the power of mindfulness in brain change and overall peace of mind, the meditation part of my practice has come in fits and spurts.  The therapists in my consultation group and I often joke about this, how challenging it can be to stay with it, no matter how busy, how tired or how otherwise distracted we are.  Yet we all have experienced the incredibly positive impact a mindfulness practice has been for us (and our clients).  A few times we’ve had meditation supportive text threads going, to ping each other with a cute emoticon to signal we have completed our meditation for the day, (which by the way was very effective for a long stretch).

Like others, we still struggle to stay the course.  But really do want to.

Elisha Goldstein, PhD, author, teacher and co-founder of The Center for Mindfulness in Los Angeles, created a popular online coaching program called A Course in Mindful Living a few years ago.  He recently contacted me to let me know about his new offering, The Mindful Living Launchpad, a free training on the topic of how to make a mindfulness practice stick, a video series.

You’ll learn:

  • Why an awareness of the here and now is helpful but not enough when seeking sustained change.
  • How to strengthen your focus
  • How positive social connection boosts commitment
  • What science tells us about the power of self-compassion and growing resilience
  • How tuning the nervous system can break unhealthy habits

This training starting today but I wanted to share it with my LoveAndLifeToolbox.com readers too.  Sign up for The Mindful Living Launchpad.  I just signed up today myself (9/21) and watched the first video where Elisha begins with “considering something you’ve been trying to change but have had a difficult time changing” and later how we are “made of habits.”  He encourages us not to be “enslaved by our programming” and how to relax the nervous system.  Check it out!  Even if you come in a few days late it appears videos will still be available in this time period so you can catch up.
